About the Washington Community Center

The Washington Community Center was built in 1976 through the generous support of Mr. McCleery and the Washington Community.  Mr. McCleery wanted Washington to have a theater to enrich the community that his employees worked in, so put a challenge out that he would come up with part of the money for a new theater if the community matched it.  First a home for the Y's Men's Club productions, it also housed the Washington Community Theater shows and then the HARP Player's productions.  It's also been the home to various local dance competitions, the County Fair Talent shows and the Washington High School shows.  New in 2015 is the WCC Presents series, which expands on the offerings at the Center by bringing in regional and national talent to add to the contribution that the Washington Community Center makes to Washington, IA.
